Upper School Spanish Teacher

Job Title: Upper School Spanish Teacher

Division: Upper School

Reports to: Head of Upper School and Chair of the World Languages Department

 

Summary: We  seek a full-time Upper School Spanish Teacher. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Upper School teachers, which complement the primary teaching load of four sections and one activity. 

 

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach four sections of Spanish or French including advanced-level courses.
  • Serve as an advisor
  • Responsibilities include advocating for the students, communicating with parents about advisees’ progress, guiding advisees through daily school life, sharing information, and leading discussions.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Global Studies to plan and chaperone trip(s) abroad and to help with the school’s Spanish Exchange Program.
  • Teacher Collaboration
  • Attend regular department meetings with student support teams to discuss concerns and progress.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Upper School Dean of Students, and School Counselors when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about student and advisee progress as necessary.
  • Participate in all required meetings  
 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors required, advanced degree in Spanish preferred.
  • Significant experience teaching the full range of language levels.
  • Experience teaching introductory French is preferred
  • Some experience living in a Spanish-speaking country.
  • Proven ability to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
  • Proven ability to encourage student discovery and autonomy of thought.
  • Some experience with literary analysis. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
