Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Summary: The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic
and interpersonal skills, through effective standards-based and data driven instruction, in a
culturally responsive classroom.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach multiple curricula including mathematics, science, and language arts, based on the
Montessori Model.

Incorporate play and nature-based learning into daily instruction.

Provide students exploratory learning and sensory stations that actively engage all
learning modalities such as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile.

Provide instruction based on established objectives and individual student needs,
maximizing tier 1 and tier 2 instruction.

Provides an environment in which each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with
caring adults by encouraging a climate that is inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive,
and flexible.

Treats students as individuals by maintaining high expectations for all students; and by
appreciating differences and valuing contributions.

Works collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students
by improving communication and collaboration between the school and the home and
community.

Integrates and utilizes technology in instruction by knowing when and how to use
technology to maximize student learning.

Helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by encouraging
students to ask questions, think creatively, and draw conclusions.

Helps students work in teams and develop leadership qualities by teaching the
importance of cooperation and collaboration.

Creates an active and engaged learning environment where students are inspired to
obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying.

Maintain a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small
group instruction, and student learning; maintain positive effective classroom

management procedures, in compliance with the school and the Fort Mojave Board of
Education guidelines.

Provide differentiated instruction utilizing research-based and cultural appropriate
strategies.

Be opened to receive teaching feedback and support from teaching partners and
administration.

Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the
educational field by attending workshops or professional developing meetings.

Administers standardized tests in accordance with the school testing programs.

Promote the school culture and practices, as well as instructional strategies and student’s
rules through extracurricular and co-curricular activities and staff leadership.

Support the mission and vision of the school Board of Education.

Be committed to teaching students in their community.

Praise students in meaningful ways regarding their positive choices and achievements.

Provide lesson plans for substitute teacher.

Develops rapport with students as individuals in a professional manner.

Demonstrate professionalism.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:
Minimum:

 Loves young people, can whole-heartedly engage in working with and for them.
 Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and licensed teacher.
 Willingness to maintain a high level of competence, exercise discreet judgment and honor
confidentiality.
 Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural,
economic, and ability backgrounds.
 Ability to interact with and maintain positive working relationships with individuals of
varying social and cultural backgrounds.
 Compliance with Indian Tribe drug and alcohol policy.
 Compliance with federal background check.
 Must satisfy health requirements as defines by the Tribe/State/Federal program
standards for care of children.
 Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, upon hire.
 Successfully pass a physical exam, upon hire, to meet the physical demands required in
the position.
 Successfully pass a tuberculosis test, upon tire.
 Current immunization verification upon hire see attached immunization requirement (see
attached immunization requirements, Caring for Our Children: Health & Safety
Performance Standards).

Desirable:
 Project an image of service and professionalism with a positive attitude.
 Interacts easily as an integral part of the faculty and staff.
 Understanding of the relationship of the School with the local Indian community, and values and supports the mission of both.
 Experience, familiarity, and the ability to work with the diverse constituencies of the School.
 A minimum of three years successful elementary teaching experience.
 Master’s degree.
 Licensed in CPR and First Aid.

Computer Skills and Business Equipment:
 Be able to effectively use a computer, with Microsoft Office Software, and a SmartBoard.
 Be able to operate a fax machine, printer, cutter, shape cutter, digital camera, and
laminator.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
 Supervises and provides guidance and direction to teaching assistants, aides, parent
volunteers, and summer youth workers. Maintains professional knowledge by attending
mandatory meetings, professional development workshops, and conferences.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities related to Cultural Competence and Equity:
 Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and
desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
 Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and
equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the Indian Tribe .
 Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their
group cultural heritage.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger,
handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
The employee frequently is required to stand, run, walk for long periods of time, sit, climb, or
balance, taste, and smell. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more. Please
