Our Middle School Arts faculty stress the importance of developing technical skill and personal voice through in-depth study of a variety of media. We welcome a diversity of experiences in our arts faculty so that our students encounter many avenues for thinking, revising, constructing, negotiating, developing, and symbolically expressing themselves through meaningful art making.
Position Description:
This position is for art instruction in Studio Art and Design. This includes the specializations of Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, and Sculpture.
Responsibilities
- Encourage the exploration of materials and media as languages for personal expression.
- Work in partnership with the other Middle School arts faculty members to maintain and refine an intellectually challenging and creative art program with developmentally appropriate research-based practices.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the Middle School Visual Art curriculum.
- Work closely with the chair of the art department and ES-12 art department faculty.
- Provide a safe and stimulating environment that facilitates learning.
- Maintain a palpably strong commitment to educating a diverse student body within a caring and creative environment through equitable and inclusive teaching practices, curricula, and programming.
- Develop, plan, and implement the curriculum through daily lessons.
- Differentiate for individual students based on their unique learning needs.
- Ensure all students are appropriately engaged and challenged.
- Manage classroom behavior.
- Respond promptly to communication from colleagues and parents.
- Maintain records of each student's progress.
- Report student progress to parents through a trimester-based report card.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to enhance teaching and learning.
- Attend and participate in meetings of all committees joined.
- Attend and participate in regular faculty meetings and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (BFA), have significant teaching experience at the middle school level, provide a portfolio of personal art practice, exhibit enthusiasm and skill for serving as a Middle School advisor, and demonstrate a record of innovation and professional growth in a school setting. Advanced degrees are strongly encouraged; state certification is not required.
