Spanish Teacher (K–12) – Independent School
Position Overview:
The Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering an engaging, student-centered language program that develops proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. The teacher fosters cultural awareness and appreciation for the Spanish-speaking world while supporting the school’s mission and commitment to academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction for students in grades K–12
- Create a classroom environment that promotes active learning, communication, and cultural exploration
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and language proficiency levels
- Integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills into daily lessons
- Assess student progress regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs
- Incorporate technology and authentic materials to enhance language learning
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and interdisciplinary opportunities
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school leadership
- Participate in school events, faculty meetings, and professional development
- Serve as an advisor, coach, or extracurricular leader as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Fluency in Spanish and strong command of English
- Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary, middle, or high school level
- Familiarity with best practices in world language instruction (e.g., communicative approach, immersion techniques)
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an independent or private school setting
- Experience with IB, AP, or proficiency-based language programs
- Ability to teach multiple grade levels or advanced courses
- Interest in contributing to extracurricular programs (e.g., language clubs, travel programs)
