Math Teacher

This position involves teaching engaging, innovative lessons to students in grades 9-12 across five class sections and serving as a class advisor. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching many levels of math from Algebra I through Calculus. Experience teaching AP or courses beyond Calculus will also be considered. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for mathematics instruction, a strong understanding of adolescent learning, and a commitment to fostering a love of numeracy and problem solving.

Collaboration is essential and this teacher is expected to work closely with departmental and grade-level colleagues to ensure a vertically aligned and highly effective Upper School mathematics curriculum. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong student relationships, create an engaging classroom environment, and use data to enhance instruction, while actively contributing to faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. Faculty members are typically asked to run one club or extracurricular activity as part of this position. 

The position reports to the Head of Upper School. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
Fulfills professional responsibilities each year as evaluated by the Head of School, including:

● Instructional Responsibilities
○ Teaches a full load of classes or instructional minutes as defined by the appropriate division(s).
○ Identifies and implements various instructional strategies to best serve the students in the classroom and follows any student educational plans.
○ Follows or collaboratively selects long-range goals and short-term measurable objectives in alignment with the School’s curriculum.
○ Adequately manages preparation and time to create engaging lesson plans and appropriate instructional resources. 
○ Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and pedagogy.
○ Uses data and assessment results to improve instruction. 
● Communication Expectations
○ Documents and measures student progress in a timely manner through grading, report cards, and narratives.
○ Maintains consistent and timely communication (e.g. email, phone calls, conferences) with parents, colleagues, and students.
● Community and Culture Involvement 
○ Serves as an Advisor or homeroom teacher or assumes an alternative responsibility.
○ Manages class time and student behaviors by establishing age appropriate classroom expectations and procedures.
○ Engages in professional development and growth, including the annual Feedback and Observation Protocol.
○ Attends and participates in grade/division/School-wide events and community activities.
○ Supervises students as assigned by division (e.g. car line, lunch, study hall, events, etc.]. 
○ Chaperones field trips, off-campus education trips, and other out of-school student activities as needed. Sponsors clubs and activities as divisionally appropriate.

Qualification Requirements
● Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred.
● 2-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools.
● Knowledge and understanding of best practices in educational technologies.
● Successful track record of collaboration and working with a wide range of learners.
● Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
● Detail-oriented and excellent time management skills
● High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.
